Who’s Afraid of Architecture? The Ghost of LC Venice Biennale

Palazzo Mora and The Ghost of LC

Unveil the bones and build an Ark to sail the flood...

In Venice, lack of spaces where artists can temporarily reside and work is a distressing reality, and part of the tourism industry’s overwhelming effects.

The project proposes the creation of cells or pods for artist's temporary accommodation in roof spaces of old buildings, to be built with wood studs recovered from the renovation itself.

A full-scale model installation of two of the 14 clustered cells of the pilot renovation project was built under the roof of Palazzo Mora as part of the 14th Biennale of Architecture. A performative construction took over the full roof level of the 1700’s Venice palazzo. During three months we deconstructed original non- structural partition walls and built the cells using the resulting wood studs.

An hommage to Le Corbusier's unbuilt project for Venice Hospital, his last, to be located in Canareggio. The hospital's in- patient rooms were located on the roof top level with views over the surrounding canals.
