Radetzky

Milan

On the site of a historic Campari cocktails bar, Cafè Radetzky was my first Milanese commission. In 1988, I took an architectural stand and designed in its even minimal details. The traditional Italian quick-standing coffee experience was mutated into a versatile room with seating options, closed behind its marble window panes for cold winter days or open bay window terraces to allow mingling with street life in summertime. I was asked to do several refresh interventions along the years, simply honing the original, including the paintings on the entrance wall by artist Nathalie du Pasquier which, originally commissioned for the room, had been replaced along time by new pieces of hers. As soon as it opened it became the iconic Milanese hangout that remains today.
