Opio 5 Gallery
Montepulciano is an old etruscan hilltop settlement which reached regional political relevance during the Renaissance; patrician palaces are set along Opio main road leading to the central square. Main road basement levels are often backstreet ground level open to courtyards and enjoying grand open country views. This is the case here, a small exhibition room on Opio main Street acts as the atrium to a basement level large exhibition hall open to a lower level courtyard. An excercise on dimming the presence of a Renaissance brick multi vaulted structure while introducing an abstract geometry of construction wood slats and steel elements to connect or close the space.
